Computing Facilities

Geographic Information Systems Lab (GISCI)

The use of this micro computing laboratory is restricted to students registered in specific Geography courses, graduate students and faculty. The GIS lab is open year round with 24 hour card swipe access.

The GISCI lab contains 26 Pentium IV computers, high speed B/W and colour printers and scanners and a projection system.

Software available in the lab includes ESRI ArcGIS, PCI Geomatics, Idrisi, MS-Office, Photoshop and CorelDraw.

Graduate Computing Lab

The use of this micro computing laboratory is restricted to graduate students and departmental personnel only.

The Graduate Lab contains ten (10) Pentium IV computers, a high speed B/W printer, document scanner and a slide scanner.

Software available in the lab includes ESRI ArcGIS, Idrisi, PCI Geomatics, ENVI, eCognition, MS-Office and Photoshop.

Spatial Data Analysis Lab (SDAL)

The use of this micro computing laboratory is restricted to students registered in specific Geography courses, graduate students and faculty. The SDAL lab is open year-round with 24-hour card swipe access.

Software available in the lab includes ESRI ArcGIS, PCI Geomatics, Idrisi, MS-Office and Photoshop.

GIS and Spatial Modelling Facility

This micro computing facility is located in the Map Library and is used for geospatial data access, analysis, and visualization using GIS technology, as well as for spatial statistical modeling and remote sensing research. The facility is available to students, staff and faculty.

Facilities include 4 high-end PCs with Xeon processors, 2 colour scanners, a colour printer, and a 42" plasma monitor.

Software available in the lab includes ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (including all extensions), ArcIMS, Idrisi, PCI Geomatica (incl. OrthoEngine, EASI, PCI Modeller), ENVI, FME, SAS, SPSS, GeoPinpoint Suite, Beyond 2020, Photoshop, Illustrator.
